Well, the machine is victorious over the humans. My father and I did our darndest to replace the shocks, struts, and springs in my Focus, but the toll salt has taken made removing suspension bolts impossible. We cracked a socket, bent our lug wrench, and were still unable to complete the task at hand. I guess our local shop is getting a little more business this week.
Have a sad, sad Focus.

Maybe some Miracle Oil or WD-40 on the nuts for a few days? Soak 'em.

Even the Focus Fanatics forum says that often air tools are needed in the rust belt. . .

Exactly. This car is 10 years old, has less than 70k on the clock, and is already so rusty that we snapped a socket in half undoing bolts.

Gawd, I don't miss that stuff. My 98 Subaru has no rust underneath it. Every bolt and nut comes off like nothing. When I grew up in Michigan, a brake job meant seeing how far back you had to go to find a bolt that would loosen. To quote Jim Morrison, "The West is the best"....

Bertha will just break the bolts off. Trust me, I know.

PB'Laster. On every bolt. Squirt it on twice daily for a week before you plan on pulling out the bolt. If possible, make a little pool out of modeling clay or something to soak the bolt.
I own a 310,000 mile Jeep that's seen 25 winters in a land with more winter than summer. Before I was introduced to the magic PB, I once resorted to a death wheel to get an axle nut off, after sitting with an impact gun on it for a good half-hour.

get a couple of cans of Subaru upper engine cleaner , apply liberally , let it soak for a while
then you will get them undone.
